Rams Review contributor Andy Buckley-Taylor gives his thoughts on Derby's upcoming match against Wycombe Wanderers.
Derby County go into Saturday’s game with Wycombe Wanderers (Masters of selling out of car park spaces) on the back of two very poor performances.
Throwing away a two goal lead is unforgivable no matter how the flow of the game is going and the gutless performance at Lincoln has set he alarm bells ringing for a few fans.
Although we dominate possession in games, we are pussy cats rather than lions when it comes to the final third of the pitch. We simply aren’t converting enough chances we make. James Collins has scored one solitary goal, but the service he is getting isn’t exactly five star.
The defence started the season well, but in the last two games they have been opened up. Fans should not vent too much of their anger on young Eiran Cashin. He’s still new to first team football and up to the Plymouth game had been one of our best players.
To not have a right back good enough to start simply isn’t good enough. I know our team was thrown together in a short space of time, but building from the back is the best way or assemble a squad.
Playing midfielder Jason Knight out of position at right back not only leaves questions about that position, but it also robs us of his energy in midfield.
Personally, I’d like to see David McGoldrick starting every game alongside Collins. We have good wide men in Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lewis Dobbin but scoring goals is our weakness. McGoldrick can provide that extra that we are lacking.
At the end of the day Liam Rosenior will need to find a fix if he is to get the mangers job full time! We have big crowds at Pride Park and they will want their moneys worth, especially with Wycombe in town on Saturday and I’m sure their owner Rob Couhig will not get the warmest of receptions, should he attend the match!
