The Week in Review

Rams Review contributor Andy Buckley-Taylor gives his thoughts on the past week at Derby.

It’s been a very good week for Derby County. On Sunday they defeated Bournemouth and then on Wednesday managed to get a draw at Fulham.

Most fans had been fearing a couple of heavy defeats, but again this side is showing real fight in the mammoth task in remaining in The Championship. This despite 21 points being taken away from us!

Liam Thompson made his debut against The Cherries and was selected again for the trip to Craven Cottage. His performances were fantastic for a youngster that's just been called up to the senior team. Our academy is one part of the club that is run well. Full credit to all the coaches at Moor Farm.

There was some bad news, and that was the injury to Lee Buchanan. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks of games. He injured his knee on Sunday in the game against Bournemouth. Craig Forsyth was recalled to the line up at Fulham and did an excellent job of keeping former Ram Harry Wilson quiet for much of the game.

Rams fans were in the news too! St John Ambulance were left being owed £8,000 by the club when it entered administration and there seemed little likelihood that they would get it! Mel Morris walked away from the club leaving it millions of pound in debt and Derby supporter Andy Mitchell set up a Just Giving page to raise funds. The fundraising has now reached over £10,000. Well done Andy and all fans who chipped in!

In other news Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson is suing Derby for £45m as they pipped Boro to the play offs during Frank Lampard’s spell as manager. He's claiming that overspending gave Derby an advantage and wants compensation for such. Gibson, I’m afraid, is a very bitter man with an agenda against our club. Could them missing out be due to the fact that they went on a horrendous run of form during the run in? He has a real chip on his shoulder! Did we sue QPR when they beat us at Wembley and had overspent massively? No!

Of course neither of the last two items would be news had Mel Morris not walked away from the club, or overspent! Serious financial mismanagement and he’s left others to pick up the pieces!

It’s speaks volumes of his character that Wayne Rooney has stuck with us. If any boss deserves success at the moment it’s him!
