Rams Review contributor Andy Buckley-Taylor gives his thoughts on The Rams.
We are currently in an international break and Derby County are awaiting confirmation about how many points are to be deducted from them for breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Journalist John Percy has already reported that our administrators are now resigned to losing a further nine points taking the seasons total to 21! The appeal against the 12-point deduction for going into administration has fallen on deaf ears and we now seem doomed to third tier football in 2022/23.
As I have said before, there is only one man to blame for this and that is Mel Morris. The big question though is what do we do now? Do we start giving our young players more game time with next season in mind or do we still try and attempt the impossible?
If we should have new owners come January, manager Wayne Rooney may be able to wheel and deal.
I would think that the likes of Krystian Bielik, Lee Buchanan, Louie Sibley, Jason Knight, Kamil Jozwiak and many more will depart from the club before we play our first fixture in League One. And if we are still in administration, many will go for bargain basement fees!
The next few weeks will be interesting!
In our last fixture we put up a battling performance to grab a point at Millwall. Festy Ebosele had a great game and scored his first goal give the fans something to cheer about. We had to survive the last half hour with ten men as Nathan Byrne received a second yellow for a foul on former Ram Mason Bennett.
In my opinion it is time to give Ebosele a run in the team. He looks better as a winger rather than a right back. His pace causes trouble for defences. He does need to work on his end product, but he is young. To think we nearly released this lad last summer too!
It is time for a shout out to Max Bird. He took some stick off fans last season when he had a run of poor games, but the lad has matured and is our most improved player this season. He was rated by Frank Lampard, and Wayne Rooney has stuck with him too! He plays well alongside Graeme Shinnie and no doubt the vultures will be circling Pride Park if we are reduced to having a firesafe!
We now have a very tough run of games recently and it will not be getting any easier. Bournemouth at home looks bad enough, but then we have a trip to Craven Cottage to face the team which I think is the best in the division, Fulham!
Both sides have some serious weapons in the attack and will no doubt be confident of collecting the points. Bournemouth last season only took a point from our games, but this seasons side is a different beast!
Hopefully our players can dig in and the fans will turn up again and cheer them from kick off to the final whistle!
