Rams Review contributor Andy Buckley-Taylor gives his thoughts on the upcoming week for Derby County.
It looks like American Millionaire Chris Kirchner is in pole position to become the next owner of Derby County Football Club.
It’s also been speculated that the club is set be deducted another 15 points this season, however I believe this is more likely next season. A club facing relegation would not be punished should we ultimately be in League One next season without the points taken off. This deduction is due to the takeover package not including the required 25% payback to non football creditors.
Little is know about Mr. Kirchner’s wealth. From speculation that he owns companies worth seven billion dollars, but there are claims that he alone is worth less than one hundred million dollars. If nothing else he will earn that it will need a lot of cash to steer the club on the road to recovery.
Yesterday it was revealed that eleven years ago, our prospective new owner, tweeted some distasteful comments about women, blacks and homosexuals. He has since deleted his twitter account and set up a new one. This has attracted much criticism from many quarters and rightly so! He needs to come forward and make a full statement and apology for this. Yes, it was years ago but the comments are uncalled for.
Those criticising though need to ask themselves if they protested as much when Far East owners have taken over clubs. Their countries that treat women like dirt and are notoriously homophobic. If not this stinks of hypocrisy!
Despite Chris Kirchner being favourite to take over, it wouldn’t be Derby County without another twist!
