Blogger Elliott gives his thoughts on Max Bird.
Now more than ever Derby County are depending on their younger players to really step up and become key figures in the side.
Max Bird has been touted as the next big thing to come out of Derby’s academy for the past few years. He has been a main stay in the side recently and may be a victim of managers being chopped and changed, thus not settling into the side properly.
Bird played excellently away at Hull on Tuesday night where he got a Who Scored rating of 6.75. He completed 52 passes and had a pass success rate of 78.8%. Bird also had one key pass recorded. Hopefully from here Bird can really kick on and take this confidence with him into the rest of the season.
Derby’s number eight is still only 20 years old and has plenty of room to grow and improve. It may help the young ram having the likes of Phil Jagielka and Curtis Davies at centre-back behind him as he knows he can depend on them. Davies is unlikely to bring the ball out of defence so more often than not it will become Birds responsibility to make things happen in the middle of the park.
Wayne Rooney has preferred to stick with Max Bird as one of his two holding midfielders. Will we see him kick on from here and add some goals and assists to his game?
