Ravel Morrison: The Low Down

Ravel Morrison is training with The Rams. It's pretty safe to say that the 28 year old attacking midfielder is a journeyman having played for 11 clubs in five countries since his career began over a decade ago.

Morrison's last club was ADO Den Haag where he signed a one year contract that was terminated by mutual consent in January.

We spoke with Rogier Heimgartner, who follows ADO Den Haag, makes the ADO podcast and is a columnist for Haaglanden Voetbal and Glenn Duijzer who follows ADO Den Haag and also writes for Haaglanden Voetbal, about Morrison and his time in The Hague with ADO.

Morrison was signed on a yearlong deal in September last year, but he was released in January after making only four appearances. Why was that? And how did he perform?

Rogier: His stay with ADO Den Haag was so brief I don’t even think I can answer all your questions! The official reason he left was because the club and him had different plans. It was weird though that he was never fit enough to play 90 mins for ADO but a week after he left he played three international games with Jamaica.

He played 4 games for ADO but I think if you ask 100 fans how he performed, at least 80 will have no idea who he is. I can’t remember him have a shot on target or a memorable pass or anything!

Glenn: On his own request he was released. It was a relation doomed from the beginning. We had the worse team since 1954 when professional football started in Holland. Then again, Ravel still believes he is better then he actual is. He wanted to leave quite fast in the season after he was benched. He was one of the huge powers behind the sacking of the coach.

When the new coach started, he was on the bench again and left the club. I think his time in Holland was wasted for both the team and him.

What would you say are Morrison's strengths and weaknesses?

Rogier: I simply don’t know anything about his abilities, I spoke to an English journalist when he arrived and he told me that he’s a gifted midfielder, I heard Rio Ferdinand say in a podcast that he was the most talented player he’d ever seen at Manchester United, but we never saw anything like that at ADO.

Glenn: We never saw his strenght due to the fact he never played matches in a row. His weakness is his attitude, still thinking he is that great ManU player.

What is he like in the dressing room?

Rogier: I make the ADO Podcast with a fan who’s always at the training ground, he said Ravel Morrison was a really friendly guy. But I also heard he can be really arrogant in the dressing room.

What would you expect from him next season in the Championship with Derby County?

Rogier: If I'm honest, I think he’s gonna be a waste of time for Derby. He’s been at a 1,000 clubs in a decade and has never really fulfilled his potential. Maybe Wayne Rooney can be a positive factor for him, but I really doubt it!

Glenn: The fact he played for so many teams says it all. A great talent, but never used the potential, Which is a pity, because sometimes he makes a pass or interception which is really great. To be honest, can’t see him making a difference for the Rams.
