Less than Two Weeks to Save Derby

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

Rams Review blogger Elliott gives his thoughts on Derby County.

Derby County are less than two weeks away from disappearing all together. They are on the brink of liquidation and have seemingly been abandoned by everyone. The EFL cannot and will not help as they are too busy being embroiled in petty statements with the clubs administrators. The EFL want to make an example out of Derby and block every route the club try’s to go down, whether the EFL are acting lawfully or not, doesn’t appear to matter to them.

The COVID loan that every club, bar Derby, was given would actually save the club this season and would avoid a liquidation scenario, but of course Derby were not authorised to have that. Why’s that? Well, because they are Derby County.

Yesterday, MP’s met with the EFL but their discussions do not seem to be that fruitful as the EFL continue to defend themselves without actually proposing any form of solution to save the club. A bizarre contradictory statement was released at 10pm last night where the EFL were asked ‘do you have a vendetta against Derby?’ When an impartial organisation even has to be asked this question just shows what kind of organisation the EFL is and how they are viewed from the outside. They have been obsessed with punishing Derby for years, constantly appealing decisions that have been ruled in The Rams favour, so it may be clear that the EFL, do in fact have a vendetta.

Two legal claims still remain against the club which is a massive hurdle for any potential owner to overcome. The general consensus is that these clubs would not be successful should they get to court, however there is not the time or money to go through that process. In addition how could the club pay any claim in compensation at the moment anyway? Derby is effectively backed into a corner with no way of paying or sorting out the claims. The only option is to liquidate. Some fans have said would Steve Gibson be happy with forcing a club into liquidation? Well of course he would, it means less competition for his club and the rest of the league, so why would he withdraw his claim.

There is now less than two weeks to save the club and most people look to have given up hope that Derby will survive.

There doesn’t seem to be a way that the club can overcome any of these hurdles.

We’re Derby County, we fought 'til the end.
