Kamil Jóźwiak's signing last week was met with great excitement by the Derby County fan base. We've all see the YouTube clips and stats from the young Polish winger, but we wanted to find out what he is thought of in Poland. We spoke with Jarosław Koliński, an experienced sports journalist for Przegląd Sportowy and OnetHello. He mostly covers the Premier League.
Thoughts on the Kamil Jóźwiak move?
Difficult question! I’m always suspicious, when Polish players come to the English Championship. The Championship is a very demanding league and many, many Polish players have not coped well with it. You need to be a tough guy, who is ready for a physical fight. In Poland it looks different, training in Poland is less intensive. That’s why I’m always afraid about Polish players. With Krystian Bielik it was different story, he got used to it in Arsenal.
Will he be a big loss of Lech Poznan?
Yes, he will be a huge loss for Lech Poznan. Last season he was really good. He scored eight goals and had four assists. He was a huge threat. He was also an absolute joy to watch!
What can Derby fans expect from Jóźwiak? What type of player is he?
He is a very creative player. He is a player fans like to watch – he’s not afraid of dribbling and he is quite fast. And he always fights until the end of the match and helps out defensively as well.
Derby now have two Polish players, has this increased the interest of Derby in Poland?
Not at all, to be honest :)
