Fingers crossed

Guest blogger Elliot gives his thoughts on Saturday's big match for The Rams.

Tonight is arguably one of the biggest games in Derby County’s history and they’re not even playing in it.

Rotherham are away to Luton and whilst their form is similar to Derby’s they did however pick up a vital point at the weekend. A win for The Millers would see Derby drop into the relegation places on goal difference but would also see Sheffield Wednesday relegated.

Derby have had multiple chances over the past few weeks to put distance between themselves and the drop zone but have imploded on numerous occasions from a winning position. The Rams have lacked any kind of fight and desire to actually win a game and the effort from the players isn’t there. This is a stark contrast to Rotherham, who have fought in every game despite narrowly losing.

The trouble for Derby is Rotherham are now coming up against two teams in Luton and Cardiff who have nothing to play for. If Rotherham show half the effort The Rams fans have been asking for, this could see them to safety. At this stage we have to rule out Derby getting any more points this season as they have only won one in their last 14 games. The managerial team look lost for ideas and the players look uninterested.

The best Derby fans can hope for is that Rotherham lose tonight and then lose again at the weekend. We may see a miracle with a Derby win against Wednesday but it is looking very unlikely. However if Rotherham win tonight and again on Saturday this would see Derby go down to League One regardless.
