Derby Disaster

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

Guest blogger Elliot shares his thoughts on Derby's recent form.

Derby are now on the brink of relegation to League One. Only a small miracle will save them now but their inept performances aren’t helping their chances. It is more a question of when not if they go down.

Erik Alonso is said to be taking over Derby but will he want to take the club on in League One? It’s doubtful as he has openly spoke about The Rams reaching the Premier League which now looks like an impossible task. Derby will most likely be in League One next season and will be a much less attractive club to buy for a prospective new owner.

A new manager will be required for League One. A manger that knows the league and has what it takes to get out of the league at the first attempt. Derby will most likely have a shoestring budget to operate on and need a manager that can operate efficiently. Paul Cook is still available and would have been a coup for Derby this season. He would be an excellent option for them when they are relegated.

Rooney simply cannot stay on as he has shown absolutely nothing whatsoever. The performances under Rooney have been Cocu-esque. Rooney is simply not good enough.

More to the point the players aren’t bothered and aren’t good enough for the Championship despite the majority being on eye watering wages. A reset in League One may help Derby financially as they can have a clear out of their top earners.

Finally, will Mel Morris even want to finance this club for another season? His decisions as of late have been abysmal and it is on his head that Derby are in this mess. From fighting for promotion as one of the best teams to watch in the league to barely being able to muster a shot on goal. This is what Derby have become. The players, manager and owner are not bothered about this club and either want out or are using Derby as a stepping stone despite not being talented enough. Rams fans have had enough but it could yet get worse when Derby find themselves in League One next season.

First mistake Rooney should not have retired from playing he was still class on the pitch so I blame Morris for letting him,2nd mistake was loan players who would find it hard to play Sunday football with the exception of CKR and Lee Gregory who at a later stage of there career never got the service but still managed to get the odd goal, 3rd mistake was the clueless idiots who got Morris to sign players over the past 5 years which was not up to the job so if MORRIS wants to sell the club to get a bit of money back I don't blame him, but ime afraid it was his fault to rely on idiots that ne…
