Change Needed for the Final Two Games

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

Guest blogger Elliot give his thoughts following Derby's defeat to Birmingham.

Derby now have two games of the season remaining and their Championship status is hanging in the balance.

The Rams again found themselves ahead against Birmingham at halftime, before imploding and throwing away a lead to lose 2-1. Derby seemingly forgot what they were doing in the second half and failed to defend Birmingham’s long throw-ins which cost them dearly. Wayne Rooney seems to think his team had worked on defending long throw-ins during training, which if true, is worrying as it didn’t show.

The team looks to have given up on Rooney and lost faith in him. They also seem to have lost any desire to keep The Rams in the Championship. With two games remaining a change is needed at the helm more than ever. Derby have one win in their last 13 games which is a dire record and there has been very little from those games to see where the next win will come from.

The players clearly need a change of tactic to scrape some points from the last two games, and with Rooney in charge Derby will be lucky to get one point.

The only thing keeping Derby out of the relegation places right now is the fact there are three teams that are slightly worse than them. However Rotherham still have four games left compared to Derby’s two and it wouldn’t take them much to pip The Rams to Championship safety.

It is getting desperate for Derby and a swift change is needed if they have any desire to remain in this league.
