Beni Baningime is the latest name to be linked to Derby on a busy Deadline Day. But who is the 22 year old midfielder? We spoke with The Unholy Trinity Everton Podcast to learn more about him.
It’s rumored that Derby have made a loan inquiry into Beni Baningime. Do you think these rumors have legs or is it paper talk?
There's certainly a chance he moves on. He isn't going to break into the first team squad any time soon, with other youngsters ahead of him in the pecking order.
Is he well thought of at Everton? Does he have the potential to be a first-team player at Goodison?
He won't make it for us now. I know David Unsworth (U23 coach) likes him, but at the age of 22, you've got to feel his time at the club is over and he needs to move on and make a career for himself, playing regular league football.
What are his strengths? His weaknesses?
His general energy and work rate appears to be decent. Happy throw his foot in as well, which is important for any side.
It's difficult to pick a weakness when he has only featured a handful of times for the first team. Don't think he is a player who will be switching the play, with a James Rodriguez range of passing, but he will be an asset.
He is a midfielder. What kind of midfielder is he? Is he a creative force or a defensive type or a playmaker?
He's a combative midfielder. Looks to break the play up and bring others in best example of this is when he played for the first team away at Stamford Bridge. Acquitted himself well that day (December 2017).
Did Beningme ever play with Rooney?
He has played with Rooney! During the season when season Rooney came back to us, he was used by Unsworth during his interim tender and also in the Europa League. I'm sure Rooney has a decent recollection of him.
Do you think he can adapt to Championship football?
I'm sure he'll adapt well to the Championship. He needs to be playing regular games. U23 football is no good for player development. Playing against men, in a competitive league every week is key for him. He's got the attributes to do a decent job.
What will it take for him to be successful in Derby?
Just needs games and the right attitude to accept he may not be good enough for a Premier League side. If he goes in with his head right, then there's no reason why he can't develop and move back up again. Can't see that being with us though.
